You can’t help but be impressed when you arrive at Stoneleigh Abbey in Warwickshire and Julia and Matt’s wedding at this stunning and historic building was certainly befitting of the surroundings. The day started with Julia and the girls getting ready in one of the stunning residences within the Stoneleigh Estate. Stepping into those buildings is like stepping into another world. You can almost feel the history. Julia looked stunning in her dress which she got second hand from Oxfam. This a great tip for brides, check it out, some great dresses available there. The outfit was rounded off with beautifully crafted african jewellery by Julia’s cousin Patrick Mavros. Patrick also made the wedding rings and has recently supplied jewellery to the Royal Family.
Whilst the girls were getting ready Matt and the boys were busy putting the final touches to the marquee then got ready at a hotel just a short walk away. The lads looked great in their traditional top hats and tails.
Julia and Matt’s ceremony was held in the Long Gallery within the Abbey, conducted by Matt’s brother Kelvin. It was a tight, intimate room which gave a great atmosphere. The ceremony had to be held on top of a table so that everyone could see them! Afterwards their reception was held in Stoneleigh Abbey’s walled garden which was in full bloom.
The was one particular wedding tradition that Julia and Matt took to the next level. After cutting their cake they did as a lot of couples do and fed each other a piece of cake. Well, I say fed, I’m not actually sure either of them ate much. As I was shooting this sequence I saw a glint in Matt’s eye that told me something was going to happen. It turned into a cake fight between them! You need to see the photos, I was nearly crying with laughter behind the camera!
What followed was a crazy dance floor fuelled by some great music by A Band Called Dave who completely rocked it. Matt even got his old band back together for one song with Matt on drums. It was the perfect party to round off a perfect wedding.
I had so much fun with this one and was really impressed with the way both sets of family and friends who pitched in to help, making bouquets, the cake, table decorations and so much more. Thank you all for an incredible day and making me feel so welcome. Here are the photos.
