Documentary Wedding Photographer

Thank you so much Matt!! We love the photos and you did such a great job in capturing the day… So many smiles and that’s what I will always remember. Everyone thought you were a really nice guy to have along on our day and we now have lovely photos to match the memories. We are so grateful!
Pippa and John

When Pippa and John got in touch, we spoke about a documentary approach to their wedding photography. Telling the story of a wedding as it happens is the way I approach things so it was a perfect match. Yes, we still did a few family formal shots at the church and even grabbed a couple of creative portraits at the end of the day but other than that, nothing was set up. This is the style of wedding photography I believe in. For me, the photographs should be all about the wedding, the wedding should not be all about the photographs.

Pippa and John got married at Barham Church in Kent, just yards from John’s family home where the boys got ready. John’s Mum was even seeing to her duties as a church bell ringer before the wedding! The girls got ready at Pippa’s family home where there was a real sense of excitement for the day ahead. Pippa then travelled to the church driving a carriage pulled by her own horse. This wedding really couldn’t be any more personal to Pippa and John. The things that were important in their lives played a big role in the day.

After a lovely and again, very personal ceremony at the church, it was on to the reception at Kingston Barn, a unique village hall not far from Canterbury. Pippa and John had done a fantastic job decorating the barn and marquee in an Alice in Wonderland theme with afternoon tea to match. After some excellent speeches it was time for an English summer tradition, rounders. The highlight of a captivating game was Pippa’s rounder off John’s bowling. That’s just how it happened, right Pip? Then a tradition of the Celtic variety, a Ceilidh, which rounded off a perfect wedding with one hell of a party.

A huge thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome and part of the wedding. Congratulations Pippa and John, I wish you every happiness. If the smile permanently embedded on Pippa’s face for the whole of her wedding day is anything to go by I know you will be. Here are a few of my favourite photos from the day.
